I think it was called Kobos Coffee — acquired by Groundwork.
Very hipster, very Portland. Had a sea salt caramel espresso milkshake and bought some Black Magic whole bean coffee beans. Good stuff!
This place was a really wonderful experience for my husband and I, we were on our way to Eugene from Seattle and stopped here after a long drive for a coffee and muffin. We ordered for here, and got our hemp milk latte in these lovely mugs. The coffee was absolutely wonderful, and the muffins were definitely the best vegan muffins I've ever had. The barista was incredibly kind and welcoming, the atmosphere is really perfect for having a nice conversation or bringing a laptop and getting some work done, or even reading a book. I loved this place, I will come here again next time I'm in Portland for sure!
Surprisingly solid brunch! Got a bfast burrito which had eggs, potatoes, avocado, and spinach plus a simple greens salad. Delicious and filling! And of course, the coffee is top notch. Plenty of sitting and very bright and open. I can imagine this will become my go to spot!
Really good coffee! Interesting atmosphere!
Friendly staff, spicy chai, good music, cool decor, peaceful working environment!
Amazing design, friendly baristas, great coffee, and homemade cashew milk. Recommend 👌🏼
The Everything Bagel with sour cream is everything, literally dripping sour cream as I bite. Who knows eating a bagel roadside can make me feel like a little prince, sometimes happiness is just that simple. Coffee is pretty good too.
First may I say wow. 🤩 This huge open and spacious cafe is a total must for me. The actual smell of the coffee roasting when you park behind the store is untouchable by anyone as far as I am concerned. I have tried several coffee drinks and a green tea that were also untouchable by the other cafes I frequent. The prices are good for the items I order. The menu looks very nice. ( I included a shot of the menu) The feel of this location is very relaxed and its easy to stay a long while doing laptop work or recreation. The best part for me I think is how open and friendly they are to pets. I mean some days I go and there are so many (well behaved of course) even the largest breeds can be accommodated here. I had one of the BEST dark chocolate mochas here. It’s a “for sure” when I’m close to the NW area.
Lots of light, open spaces and tables. Would be a great place to collaborate. Coffee is good, haven't tried anything else. Only thing it needs for 5 stars is more cozy chairs.
Dog friendly!
7$...for a vanilla latte and lil extra vanilla....never again
Big space with lots of seating. Importantly, however, the drip coffees today (tried both the Peru and Papua New Guinea) were not very tasty. We were disappointed and left without finishing either cup. Papau tasted very pulpy/papery and the Peru simply lacked depth or flavor. Kind of a suburban mom coffee shop - lots of caramel lattes and such.
Kathryn and Chris make it the morning A-Team. Go Team Groundworks.
Had their Affogato! Very delicious. Clean, comfortable and quiet environment. Great music.
Large space with indoor and outdoor seating, free secured WiFi, and friendly baristas. Great music. Really difficult to access on foot from NW (location is on the far side of Vaughn and requires crossing major lanes of traffic without a direct crosswalk). I personally thought $3 for a small Americano was a bit high since other local coffee shops charge $2, but the coffee IS really good.
Excellent coffee. Lots of variety.
Lots of space -- usually feel guilty taking my laptop to coffee shops, but not here. Great coffee/lattes -- love the mini breakfast burritos. Friendly folks.
The coffee is good, service is lacking. Painfully slow to make a latte and they do not use thermometers to determine if milk is at temp. I've always gotta Luke warm lattes. The employees seem incapable of smiling. Wish the service was better I would keep going. ☹
If you like hipster douche bags from LA, then this place will be right up your alley! If you go, make sure to ask if the product is actually "local and organic"!
Finally had breakfast there today and the egg sandwich was eggcellent! Great selection of coffee drinks, including bottled cold brew and also bagels and pastries. I really like the people who work here as they are always very friendly and not the typical Portland bah-ristas, haha. This place took over from Kobos who apparently sold it to these guys because they have similar philosophies. Really close to NW 23rd so I hope they do well!
As others have written, I can’t speak highly enough of their homemade cashew milk. It was excellent with the chai latte. Groundwork is a great place to spend the afternoon working - giant tables, great daylight, fast WiFi. The only thing I would improve is sound absorption/soft materials or add lounge seating, and renovate the bathroom. It was not very busy when I came in, but I can imagine the noise could get bad in the open warehouse aesthetic. And the unisex restroom is part of the customer experience- don’t forget about it!
Had the papau new Guinea coffee, was delicious and a breakfast sandwich which was way better then I expected. Toasty eng muffin great sauce ripe tomatoes and fresh egg? I will be back and bring people here for sure. Thank you!!!
I had the best cup of Coffee I ever had in my life❤
Their cashew milk is SO RICH AND CREAMY. Makes for my favorite latte. Get it even if you like dairy. Great space inside too with lots of room to work.
Rude service. When I walked in the barista greeted me with a blank stare: no hi, no what can I get you....just a cold, blank stare. Very weird behavior and I’d rather go somewhere where the service is more friendly.
Usual (these days) detached service but coffee is good.
Great cappuccino!
Nice open and industrial atmosphere. Although it can be a little noisy sometimes at busier parts of the day. If you're driving, there is limited and tight parking spaces. But how's the coffee? It's really so good, with a nice variety of coffee options available..
Bright and airy organic coffeehouse with lots of seating! Fewer outlets but with personal tables or community tables you have your choice of places to work. Wide array of organic teas. I got the chai latte with almond milk which was spicy and creamy! Only vegan eats are cookies though. That would be the only downside. Friendly baristas make up for it!
Great spot in Slabtown! Go!!!
This place is huge and a really cool space. Great place to do work, study, or just hangout. Plenty of seats. The staff was so knowledgeable about the coffee, and walked us through the process of making a pour over. They have classes on some Fridays to learn more about the coffee world. There is parking.
Out of all of the coffee I've had in Portland, this has been my favorite. It's robust flavor with absolutely no bitterness, plus the food is quite good.
Good coffee
Wow this place is huge. Great tea selection. Fast internet, friendly baristas, 5 star all the way
Coffee here is stellar.
Spacious coffee shop!
Delicious, well prepared drinks and food. I usually take some Black Gold with me for home. Worth a stop
Excellent espresso shot, and the GF Banana Chocolate Chip muffin was delicious. Pleasant atmosphere with plenty of space to sit and work.
Stopped in on a busy Friday morning at 8am to pick up a half pound of bulk beans and was delighted to also receive a free sample of cheesy breakfast burrito and a little cup of drip coffee. Such exceptional service and attitude! Will be coming back again for a sit-down coffee to enjoy the seating in the bright, tall-ceiling industrial space.
